What PBHero stores on this iPhone
Everything you create inside PBHero is stored locally on this device using Apple's SwiftData: child profiles (name, date of birth, optional pronouns and photo); attempts and personal bests (event, value, date, optional meet context, wind, indoor/hand-timed flags, notes); rewards and redemptions you design in Parent Zone; reflections (the question asked, the kid's typed answer, any on-device transcript of an audio reflection); audio reflections as short voice recordings up to 60 seconds stored as m4a files inside the app; and video/photo references — PBHero does NOT copy your clips into the app, it stores only the identifier of the clip in your Photos library plus a small thumbnail. Delete the clip from Photos and PBHero treats it as removed. The whole thing is inside the app's private sandbox. Uninstalling PBHero removes all of it from the device.
What leaves this iPhone
Two things, both necessary for the app to work. Subscription handling: when you start a free trial or buy PBHero Family, Apple and RevenueCat (our subscription provider) receive the minimum data needed to confirm the purchase and unlock premium features — an anonymous subscriber ID and your receipt. They do not receive your name, email, PBs, reflections, or any data about your child. Crash reporting: if the app crashes, iOS may collect a diagnostic report and send it to Apple (and to us, if you opt in via Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements). These reports contain technical stack traces, not your content. That's it. No analytics tools, no third-party SDKs for tracking, no advertising identifiers, no social-media pixels.
What does NOT leave this iPhone
Your child's name, birthday, photo, pronouns, age group. Every PB, attempt value, date, and event. Every reflection — audio, video, text, transcript, prompt. Every moment you attach to a PB. On-device speech recognition runs entirely on the iPhone's own Apple Neural Engine. Your child's voice is transcribed locally and never sent to a cloud service.
Permissions PBHero asks for
We only ask for a permission when you actually use the feature that needs it. Camera — to film a PB or record a video reflection. Microphone — to record an audio reflection. Photo Library (read) — to import an existing clip and attach it to a PB, or pick a profile photo. Photo Library (add) — to save a clip or photo you record inside the app into your Photos, so it's backed up with the rest of your library. Speech Recognition — to transcribe audio reflections on-device. Each permission can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy → [permission] → PBHero.
Children's data
PBHero is designed to be set up and operated by a parent or guardian on their own iPhone. PBHero does not create online accounts for children, does not collect email addresses or phone numbers for children, does not present advertising to children, and does not have messaging, social, or user-generated-content-sharing features that expose children to strangers. Because the app keeps child-related data on the parent's device rather than on a server, the decision about what to record belongs entirely to you.
How to delete data
Delete an individual moment — tap the trash icon when viewing it. Audio files and transcripts are removed from the device immediately. Clips in your Photos library are not touched. Delete a child profile — Parent Zone → tap the child → Delete profile. That removes their PBs, reflections, and attached media records for good. Delete everything — uninstall PBHero. iOS wipes the entire app sandbox, which is where all PBHero data lives.
iCloud backups
Your app's database is included in Apple's standard encrypted iCloud Backup if you have that turned on. PBHero does not additionally sync data to any cloud service of ours. Audio files stored by PBHero are marked as excluded from iCloud Backup, so your backups don't balloon from reflection recordings.
Changes to this policy
If we change how PBHero handles data, we'll update this page and bump the effective date. Material changes will be surfaced the first time you open the updated version of the app.
